Lift off for Hack Week 0x064A!

iZettle is a very diverse company. We are made up of people from many nationalities and different walks of life. We cultivate innovation and ideas from our different backgrounds, and that’s something we harness. Combining that with our belief that if you get freedom, you take responsibility, led up to us instating Hack Week.

We host Hack Week four times a year. It’s a week-long event where we team up and work on new projects we think would be a benefit to the company. It is a fantastic opportunity to experiment and learn by stepping out of our comfort zones. Some of these projects from previous years have since been worked into production features.

It can be a challenge, to start a new project and get up to speed in such a short time frame. Especially if you are stepping into the shoes on another developer. We have backend developers hacking on our Android app, and QA engineers plugging away on web apps. Hack Week is all about getting your hands dirty. And while we do develop hardware, this Cyborg Santa isn’t something we see everyday.

After dark, we try to work hard and push through - we all want a finished, polished project to present on Friday. This is us, all having dinner together.

Because - while Hack Week isn’t a popularity contest - we still want to motivate everyone to work as hard as we can. So at the end of the week, everyone gets to present their work. And after the presentations, the audience votes on their favorite project.

Your face when you you’ve just won a helicopter tour over Stockholm.
